Session
Recording
I've worked on numerous session recording projects over
the years at studios throughout the Metro Atlanta area
for a variety of artists, companies and events. Whether
it's collaborations or contract work, I love recording
and being a session musician! Here are a few examples
of the projects of which I've been a part.
Montage
My longest-running musical collaboration and recording
project is Montage, a band consisting of me, Chris Jones
and a variety of guitarists and producers. We've recorded
in studios across the metro Atlanta area. Chris generally
writes all the lyrics, and I take most of the instrumental
duties. Click here for some

This was recorded as a gag, but I ran across it the other
day and decided to post it here. It was the first time
I'd ever multi-tracked my voice, and it sort of reminds
me of the Lumberjack Song!

Elvis
by Gerlinda & Weaklazyliar
Back
in 1997, I recorded some piano and organ tracks
for a demo by local Atlanta artist Gerlinda &
Weaklazyliar. I had forgotten about it until recently,
but here it is in all its glory. Thanks Ed!

Walk
To The Beat
Dr. Scholl's
Andrew Doss & Ed Rogers
In
the late 90s (although one might suspect the 80s!),
Dr. Scholl's gave away cassettes containing a 30-minute
program of walking music specially designed for
an exercise routine. Ed Rogers and I produced the
music to exacting specific BPM specifications, and
were given a specific order to put them in (warm-up,
aerobics, and cool-down). Most of it was music I
had previously written, and Ed produced it and laid
guitars on top of it. He also brought in a saxophonist
to add some additional flavor to the mix. Cheezy?
You bet, but it's got a good beat, and you can walk
to it!
Of
all the pieces of music contained in the program,
"Showcase"
is my favorite. It was also used as the theme music
for Atlanta Auto
Showcase. |

Blue

"Joy To The World" ©
Andrew Doss: organ
from the compilation album The
Best Of American Holiday Music
Click on the album cover for more information
This
CD was sold at Limited stores across the
country in the latter half of the 90s. It included
classic holiday recordings by Ella Fitzgerald, Billie
Holiday and James Brown. Blue Press was the name
of the studio band put together by Ed Rogers, owner
of Evil Genius Recordings. None of the members ever
met each other, each recording their parts at seperate
times over a period of about a year. We recorded
an entire album of Christmas standards, all done
with unique blues rock arrangements, but Joy To
The World was chosen for this compilation. It was
the first time I'd ever played rock organ. |

Jonathan
Mayfield
"Redemption" ©
Andrew Doss: drums, keyboards and percussion
from the EP Transitional Livery
A
guitarist for Montage,
Mayfield is an artist in his own right, and included
me on some of his solo work, of which this is a
prime example.

John
Scuderi
"I Know You Know" ©
Andrew Doss: drums and organ
from the album The John Williams Project: Osiris
Scuderi
was a songwriter who enlisted my help to realize
and record an album's worth of his songs for the
purpose of shopping them around within the music
industry. Various vocalists, musicians and studios
were used for this mammoth project.

During
a Montage hiatus
in 1997, I answered an Internet ad for an Atlanta
rock band seeking a drummer. I spent the Spring
and Summer of that year rehearsing, recording, and
touring with them. Although it wasn't my typical
style of music, it was a great learning experience,
and it sure was fun to play live!
