Welcome to
my small contribution to the fight against Biblical illiteracy!
Book-and-Record
Sets were one of the great escapes of my childhood. Before
CD-ROMs, DVDs, or even video games, book-and-record sets were
the ultimate source of interactive multimedia entertainment
(not to mention reading skill-building) for children growing
up in the 70s.
One set
in particular, Peter Pan Records' Favorite Stories from
the Bible, was not only my all-time favorite, but an
invaluable component of my early Biblical education. The voices,
the sounds, the artwork, and especially the music made the
stories come alive for me in a way that nothing else could.
The stories themselves are simplified versions of the Biblical
narratives, but not dumbed-down or sugar-coated for kids the
way one might expect. The overall presentation, therefore,
earned my respect early on. Much like the common observation
often expressed about kindergarten, I feel like everything
I needed to know about the great stories of the Bible I learned
from this double LP set!
The purpose
of this page is to bring this material, long out of print,
to a new audience and share not only the stories themselves,
but a little bit of the nostalgia and experience of sitting
alone as a child, reading along with the stories, looking
at the colorful pictures, and listening to the records. In
my opinion, this set should be remastered and rereleased on
CD, DVD or some other medium. Until that happens, these videos
and MP3s will hopefully serve as the next best thing. Enjoy!

Here is the complete collection of stories in MP3 format.
Please
note, it is not my intention to take credit or infringe upon
any copyrights by posting this material. As far as I can tell,
Peter Pan Records and Danmar International no longer exist,
and this book-and-record set is no longer commercially available.
Even so, I have included the copyright information at the
end of each video, and within the MP3s. I would hope that
these recordings would be taken as a tribute, rather than
an infringement, but I will gladly remove them from this site
should it become legally necessary.
